Case 450 Crawler oil consumption

I have a Case 450 crawler with 188 cid diesel built around 1971. It uses a qt. of oil every 15 - 20 hours. It starts and runs fine and has about 1000 hours on the last engine rebuild. I this high or typical for this engine?

I have a 1968 case 450 crawler loader , owned it for about 8 years now , it does not use oil at all . I change the filter and oil ever 250 -500 hours , if dusty conditions 250 hours , working in normal conditions 500 hours . I use shell Rotella 15w40 . Have you cleaned your air filter oil Bath ? Maybe change oil and filter , what grade of oil are you using , not straight 30 weight .
 
Air filter is good (paper canister). I changed oil about 55 hours ago. I'm using Rotella 30 wt. Previous owner used
Delo 400 30 wt. but I could not find that brand so I switched to Rotella. He changed oil every 100 hours and had it for
39 yrs.
 
What part of the country are you located , cold weather cranking could cause internal wear in engine ,30 weight can be too thick . Everyone I know use 15-40 , we call it Diesel Oil . Maybe you should try going to 15w40 and see what happens . I my self can not afford changing oil every 100 hours . I had a HD 11 Allis Chamlers Dozer , it used too much oil , a very good mechanic rebuilt the engine , new linners , pistons , bearings the works . Dozer used as mush oil after rebuilt , I still scratch my head about that .
 
Old retired Cat owners use to tell me they would use a gallon of oil in a 9 or 10 hour day, I know that is not a Case, just passing on what they told me.
 
I have a Case 450 , 46 years old , I have owned it over 8 years and it does not use any oil. I operated a D8H 36A series , power shift , cable straight blade , it would use 5 gallon in a ten hour shift . My old HD 11 Allis Chalmers Dozer , had it complete rebuild and engine still used a gallon in 8 hours .
