dozer black smoke

what would cause a dozer to smoke pretty heavily black smoke mainly while under load but alittle while just sitting still aswell. i have put all new air filters in it and still no better. it is a 941 cat with 330 engine. it runs good and seems to have plenty of power, with very little oil usage.

Steven, I am not an injection system expert and others can answer your
question better, but it is considered a good sign if your injector
pump can "overfuel" the engine while under load. A weak injector pump
can't overfuel the engine. You should not have black smoke at idle,
you could have an injector pump timing issue. Consistent black smoke
would indicate overfueling or pump timing problems, and indicates that
fuel is being wasted.

Cheep fuel will do that. Are you using premium diesel or the stuff from the convenience store. If
you are not, Any farm coop that sells farm diesel should have it.

I use home heating oil in my 941B with the 3304 engine and it doesn't smoke--i agree with and injector/pump problem

Hey Steven, Is that Turbocharged? When the seals go bad in the turbo it pumps engine oil right into the exhaust and is burned up- usually black smoke.

You could have inj. pump problems,or nozzle problems or someone may have "turned it up" in the past to get alittle more out of it. Also bear in mind, that it is an old school diesel and unlike the new environmentally friendly diesels of today they did blow black smoke under load, especially the non turbo'd models

here is a short video of it just moving on level ground around 3/4 throttle.

Sorry, can't see the video you posted.
And, agree injectors/pump may be causing the excessive smoke.

Read that you had changed the air filter elements. But, does the 941 have a Donnelson Venturi-type or other manufacturer's precleaner with the multiple prescreen tubes which are evacuated by hose running to a venture in the exhaust pipe?
If so, the precleaner may be partially or nearly plugged, and under high engine speed, thus high airflow, the engine can't pull enough clean air through the air cleaner system - -thus, it pulls "back-flow" from the exhaust, thus re-breathing its own waste. It will black-smoke to who-laid-da-CHUNK!

Best Wishes!

Steven , that black smoke does not look that bad , go to walmart or auto parts , truck parts store and get the best diesel fuel conditioner and run the heck out of your tractor , I believe it will clean up .
