Hey I need a little advise. I found a D -8 H dozer
The under carriage is 90 % it's been sitting
For 4 years. The owner died but his wife is wanting it gone .
The last time it was ran it got hot and when they went to start it
Back up it would only run for about 30 seconds and then it would
Quit. So I put the batteries in it and it turned over and started ,I
Watched the gauges and the oil pressure went to the green and so
did the fuel pressure . But it shut down after about 30 seconds. After you let it set for 5 minutes it will start up again BUT it will not throttle up or down . The throttle linkage all works great and so does the decelerators linkage. I chked a couple fuel lines going to the motor and they were producing fuel. They drained all the water out of the machine so it's dry. I'm thinking that when it got hot may it messed up something in the injector pump or something is sticking on the decelerator but I'm not really sure.
I can buy this old D- 8 for a cheap price ,so I will have some room for repairs. They thought the motor was blowed up because it wouldn't run for over 3o seconds. But the motor turns over really easy! Has anyone got any suggestions ? I hate to see this nice old dozer just sitting around. It's in great shape !
Thanks for any help !

I had the same trouble with a JD 450 loader. It was the black fungus that grows between the diesel fuel & water in the tank. Gave me fits till I emptied & cleaned the fuel tank, blew all the lines clear & changed filters. That stuff clogs up everything but lets enough thru to run sometimes.

Thanks for the info I'll look into that .

(quoted from post at 17:29:59 08/29/15) It's a fuel problem. Did you change the fuel filter.

I went there today and pulled the filters and they were loaded up pretty bad . I cleaned them in a bucket of gas and it was terrible nasty . I'm going to buy new filters Monday and replace the rubber PC on the manual fuel pump , I'm going to bleed out the lines . I just over looked the filters because I had fuel making it to the motor but I had a flash back from a crop sprayer that I bought that was supposed to have a had a bad motor. I changed the fuel filter and have been using it for 5 years. It did the same thing it would run a little then it would quit. I would have to wait 5 minutes before it would start. So I'll let you guys know if it works .thanks for your help.

If it is algae in the tank power service and stabil
make a product called biocide for this. An old guy
also told me once about these sticks (he called
them tampons haha) that you hang in the tank that
is supposed to cause it to stick to them and not
collect the fuel

Thanks I will try those , I went back yesterday and looked in the tank and it wasn't bad but the 1st filter had sludge about 3 inches in the bottom of the canister and the two big filters was in terrible shape. No telling how long it's been since they have been changed ! If I can get all the filters today I will see if that was the sickness of the old girls. I think he overheated the dozer and when he went to start it back up the filters wouldn't let enough fuel go threw and causing a fuel knock. Making him think it was blown up . Well it's worth a shot .
