TD 340 cranks slow?

Been trying to start this TD 340 crawler. Had started it a while ago and got it on and off a trailer. Now I cant start it. I have a new battery but cranks very slow. I took out the injectors and fuel does squirt out the holes and engine turns over pretty good. when even one injector is in it is like the compression does not let the engine turn over. I was thinking maybe the starter is weak and doesnt have the cranking it needs. Checked the voltage prior to cranking 12.81 and while cranking 11.5. I have jumper cables directly to the starter and frame (Cleaned off good). Thanks for all your suggestions.
 
Sounds like you are on the right track. I would Take the starter to a repair shop and have it checked on their machine,
 
You say jumper cables , is that in addition to the regular battery or are you just using jumper cables ? I think you will need good cables from the battery to the starter. Longer jumper cables just will not get the power there.
 
I've always been told the easiest way to ruin the glow plugs in that style engine, D166, D236, D282, is to hook up jumper cables from a running vehicle/tractor to the crawler or tractor battery and hit the glow plugs. I know I had 2 bad ones after doing just that on our TD340, first time using them after installing new Case IH glow plugs. Just what I've been told, maybe its true, maybe not, just a thought. Not that it has anything to do with your slow crank issue.

Yup you were right about the jumper cables. paid over $40.00 for the size 1 battery cables and then connected an extra battery to it. placed a jump starter battery to the glow plug wires and it cranked over good and did start. It will however not start again if it dies out, just have to wait it out and then it will start up. Oh I changed out all the oils, fluids and filters and a couple of glow plugs on it. I am tired of this thing just going to sell it out right to someone. Who needs a parts unit?
