I've come across a local Allis H-3 for sale. It's a 1965 Gas 4-cyl, 162 hp, with a 6-way blade. Ad says motor and undercarriage completely rebuilt with 150 hrs on it since. It appears to be in pretty decent shape, having judged it against the 1952 D-2 dozer that I own. Does anyone have any idea what this machine should sell for?

T-41,
Last year I picked up an HD3 Allis (diesel) at an estate sale in central Minnesota. Put in about 50 hours to get it running which was considered in the price of $1750.00. Had it shipped to northern Minnesota to my cabin and used it last winter to plow snow . After a winter's plowing I figured out the pins and bushings were badly worn. Found a set of tracks in Missouri for $2000. Have yet to replace the tracks. With that the total is about $4000.00. It is solid machine except for the pins and bushings. Hope this helps in you decision. Parts are hard to find!!!

Mr. T. Minnesota,
Thank you for the feedback. The undercarriage on the H-3 is pretty good--the rails and the front idlers have been built up with welding rod. The pins and bushings aren't sloppy, so they aren't wore out, and the grousers aren't wore thin like I've seen on very worn tracks. It doesn't have any major leaks that I can see. I haven't asked the seller to let me try it out until I have a rough idea how much it's worth. Again, thanks for your feedback. Tracks41

Unless they changed the motor it is only around 43HP if it has the 166cid which was after mid 1965 if it has the earlier pre 1965 enegine it is 149cid its only 39 HP I believe. I think the diesel was 41HP. Also if the idlers and rails have been welded up the under carriage has alot of wear in it, hence the welding try to bring it back to size. But that might be okay for what you plan to use it on. Lets face it unless you plan to use it every day and most only use them a few weeks maybe in a year it might be just fine for you. And depending on where you are located might have some bearing on price but parts are getting hard to fine, but not impossible. So keep that in mind when you make your offer. They are a very nice machine for the size.
Good Luck,
Donz

Is that the one in Missouri who is asking 7500 for it. suppose to be a nice machine but needs steering clutch adjustments according to owner.

I sold my H3 loader with 4in1 bucket for $5500. Engine just overhauled, new steering clutches and brakes, new main clutch, rebuilt hydraulic pump, undercarriage fair to good and it had new paint when I sold it. You don't get paid for doing all the upgrades but the price has to be somewhere between reasonable and partial recovery of upgrades, it's still an old machine. The price has a lot to do with the seller's circumstances. If they want out sooner than later the buyer has leverage. When you buy a machine that needs work be careful not to overpay. I sold mine to pay for my daughter's wedding...two years later she was divorced...she could have saved a lot of heartache and I could have kept my H3 I guess...it's all water under the bridge now as the saying goes.
