As I mentioned in the other thread, I picked up a IH T-340A with a Drott loader setup. The serial number plate appears to be missing, so I can't pin down an exact year. It has 5 roller racks so I believe it is a 340A. Seems to be in decent condition except for having some hydraulic issues and poor turning.
Questions:
1) What manual(s) should I get for it? Sources? I looked on ebay and see a large number of reprint manuals, but it was hard to tell what actually covers useful stuff - one seemed to be solely for final drives for instance. Reprints are fine with me as long as they're decent and cover enough to be useful.
2) The clutch brakes (brake on planetary, not sure what the correct term is) are pretty much shot. From what I've seen it's fairly easy to lift to top cover and get to these and then typically get them relined. Any suggestions on who to send them too for lining? I can always find a clutch/brake shop, but chances are good I'd be shipping them anyway so it makes sense to go to someone who's known to do them correctly.
3) One of the track brakes (actual brake outboard of the planetary) seems to be shot - as best I can tell it has a bit of braking but not much. I also noted a 'squishy' sound from it and drained a cup or so (?) of water and some oily sludge from the bottom of the housing. What's likely screwed up in there? The water came out clear but it wouldn't surprise me if there is some. I understand this setup is the same as the 340 wheel tractor, correct? Is the entire brake actuator assembly the same or just the disks?
4) I understand that the track has to be split to get to the finals - how much of a pain is this? I have certainly seen enough info that track work is hard, but am not clear how bad splitting the track at the master pin is vs actually rebuilding the entire assembly.
5) What is the part number for the 340A hydraulic filter? Sounds like there's a variant with 2 small cans and one with a single oval one - is one early vs late?
6) Can I change the hydraulic filter (transmission mounted, not external) without draining the case, or am i going to dump 10 gallons of fluid on my head as soon as I pull the bolts?
7) The loader lift has got a pretty bad leak down problem probably due to a valve issue - can these be rebuilt, and if so what's the typical cost?
Thanks,
~John
