I run a machine shop and some lady called about repairing the starter ring gear on the Flywheel of a older Massy-Fergonson Dozer. (old-1960 model) She said she tried everywhere to find them (even in canada)and they are not available anymore and was hoping to get it repaired which I would not attemp.

I did not get the actual year and Model number but is them parts that rare? Most tractor parts are readily available and some industrial equipment may be questionable but I was just wondering?

I guess I did not do good with the spelling. That is Massey-Ferguson. Sorry about that to the Massey-Ferguson Fans.

Cleddy a pal of mine had the use of 1 in the late 1970's. The guy that owned it claimed parts were hard to find back then.

I just looked at a 1970 (Oz) equipment manual. Massey Ferguson Earthmoving equipment has dozers/loaders as

MF 2244 (44 hp), MF 3366 (76 hp), and MF 500 (134 hp) - doesn't list engine manufacturer.

And MF 350 and 450 crawler excavators with Perkins engines.

As I remember the crawlers were Hanomag and the engines most likely Perkins so you might check and be able to find a ring gear that way.

I have never known any MF to use any diesel engine except Perkins which they owned from the late fifties through to when Cat took them over some 20 years ago,get the machine model or the engine model,no of cylinders etc,Perkins parts are still available, there are thousands of Ferguson tractors from that era throughout the world.

would help if you said what model you have 2244,3366, 200, 200B, 300,400,500,600,700, all the small ones used Perkins engines 500 and down the 200 and 200b used perkins 152 3 cylinder and the 300 used a 248. cant see why you cant find a ring gear.

I checked with the lady again and it is Model 2244 and around 1970 year. They say it is the Perkin's 3 cylinder engine but people have told them the Flywheel & Clutch were exclusively Massey-Fergerson and been discontinued. The ring gear is 122 tooth and 13.75" id. I was going to look at it in a day or so since it is out of the machine. I appreciate all the replys. cleddy

IF it is a shrunk on ring gear, and not made as part of the flywheel, AND it is not totally trashed, you can get some more use out of it by removing it and flipping it over. You can file or grind the points of the teeth where they mesh against the starter pinion.

The 3366 had a 4.300 and some had 4.318 motor PERKINS on and the 2244 have a3.152 motor PERKINS on and I dismantled the 2 model tractors but no more motor they ben sold
