What did I buy? (Crawler Id)

Put down a deposit on an old little crawler today. No idea what it is though, wondering if anyone has an idea.

It's a 4 cyl gasser, looks like a flathead. Exhaust is obviuously cobbled together, and the blade made be as well. Looks like the bottom of the grill was removed when they put the hydraulic pump on.

It's got a 3 fwd/ 1 rev trans. No steering clutches as far as I can tell, just brakes.

Guy said it's a Case but he wasn't at all sure - it belonged to his late uncle and he's just the guy cleaning off the proporty.

Thanks,
~John

By the looks of the front idler I would say it is an Oliver Oc3. The Cleveland Tractor Company begin building these in 1939 and Oliver bougth out the Cleveland company in 1944. Oliver made a few modifications througout the years. The crawler was the Cletrac HG from 1939-1944 and rebadged Oliver HG until 1952 and OC3 from 1952 until late 1956 when they were completely modified with the Oliver OC4. They have a Hercules flat head 4. Parts are available at Zimmermans Oliver/Cletrac Company.

doesn't look like the OC-3 I had, tho it's been a long time. It had a Hercules IXB3 motor. If it has the original dipstick IXB3 is imbossed on it.

Got it home (after some fun with loading... steel treads on steel trailer deck on slope = fun...) and did some closer checking.

Where would the tractor serial number be? I found a couple of charts, but nothing that clearly says where to find it. Turns out the engine is actually a Willy Jeep motor someone stuck in there. Decently clean install, and it runs pretty nice. Probably doesn't hurt to have a bit more power either, as long as it doesn't break anything.

Seems like a fun little tractor. Got a hydraulic issue to figure out (no pressure) but otherwise everything looks to work well. Not a bad deal for $500. 8)
