In need of Case-drott crawler information!

I recently purchased a case-drott crawler that is from the early 1970's. I am trying to fix a few things on it before I start using it around the house. I do have a manual but the engine I have is not in it. Does anyone have any information on a Detroit diesel inline 4-cylinder? I found the "model/serial" number on the block but can't seem to find it online. The numbers are: 4 A1 65 59 7* and ra*4055C. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Eric

You probably have a 4-71 (or 4-53) Detroit. If you post a picture of it that would help. Sometimes under oil and dust there is info on the side of the valve cover or around the area
of the governor. However, being a Detroit parts are easy to get new and used for reasonable prices.

Thank you! After looking at those models it looks like it is a 4-71. Is there a way to shut the engine off other than closing the intake valve? I have been looking for a fuel shut off but haven't found it. Thanks, Eric

If you take a look at the throttle control lever on top of the governor...note the movement from idle to full speed...go back to idle position and just move the lever in the opposite direction and you cut off the fuel supply. Sometimes the linkages aren't adjusted properly to work for shut down. I found this adjustment a little tricky to get it right in relation to the control at the operator's seat. You can usually just walk over and manually move the lever to the off position if there is a problem with the linkage. Hope this helps.
