I have a Cat D73t. It has an oil bath clutch and when cool one has a difficult time engaging the transmission. Would it help to change the in the clutch and one did what type of oil is necessary to replace it?

Thanks. Should the oil be changed and the screen cleaned? If the clutch break lining needs to be replaced can it be done through the inspection cover?

Your clutch has a brake to stop the output shaft from turning when you push the clutch lever fully forward, the brake should be adjusted in such a way that when the lever is pushed forward fully it just stops the shaft,it should not be too tight as to stop the machine, say you start the machine, you need to select a gear, you disengage the clutch, you then push the lever forward and with your other hand select a gear,if the shaft is not stopping with the lever pushed fully forward tighten up the brake a little till it just stops it,check the lining while you are in there.

In removing the bar that has the brake pedals, are there bolts that have to be removed from the inside of the oil bath clutch housing? I have remove all the visible bolts into the clutch housing and the brake bar is still solid.
