580ck power shift transmission issues

I have a late 60s 580ck backhoe. It starts good and the loader and backhoe work well. However, the clutch Andover shuttle do not seem to work. Regardless of wether or not the clutches in I cannot shift the power shuttle into forward or reverse...it just grinds the gears. The power shuttle fluid was low so I filled it up. The tranny oil is already over filled. Any ideas?

Do you mean you cannot move the F/R shuttle lever?,have you checked the linkage to see there is nothing fouling it,its unlikely the control valve froze up, it sounds by what you are saying that the shuttle is not going into neutral, lift the wheels off the ground, stop the engine, put the transaxle into gear, start the engine, the shuttle shift lever will have to be in neutral for the engine to start,if the wheels are driving with the shift in the neutral position it is likely one of the clutches in the F/R pack has an issue,if a disc breaks up and gets jammed between the other discs it can mean the shuttle is driving all the time, but if its how you can't move the shift lever you will have to find out why.

Sorry that I wasn't more clear. I am able to physically move the shuttle lever and neutral on the shuttle lever does work. The problem is if I try to
move it to forward or reverse the gears grind. If I push hard enough I can force it through the grinding and into forward but if I keep doing that
something is going to break. The grinding is really bad. Also, the clutch does not work. Pushing the clutch does not stop the backhoe from
driving.

Do you have a power shuttle or a manual shuttle? They made Both. IF it is a Manual shuttle
the clutch is stuck. The clutch petal on the power shuttle is simply a valve that dumps the
oil pressure back to the case. It has a torque converter, not a clutch. Need more info.

I am not sure. It does have a normal looking clutch pedal. Does that mean it is a mechanical shuttle? If not, how can I determine which kind it is?

It's manual, the 580CK had two types manual and power shuttle, chalk and cheese, the manual has a conventional clutch whereby the power shuttle has a torque converter, the 580CK series B had three options, manual, power and hydrostatic, had yours been parked for a time for the clutch friction plate to stick to the flywheel, the powershift did not appear till the SL,keep the oil levels topped up on that type machine because if anything goes wrong in the powertrain the engine has to come out to carry out repairs.
