D7E water question??

My Dy 7E water pressure guage shows the water to run up into the yellow on the guage when using it for an half hour or so,the water temp is good though,Should I be concerned about this or not??Thanks for any help!!Dave A

you could check the water pump belt tightener if the belts are't too loose

Something else to check on your machine is the pressure valve on top of the tank. Since the radiator cap screws on tight, and isn't vented, those machines have a separate pressure valve. Look for a piece about 2 or 3 inches in diameter bolted on to the top of the tank. Be very careful you don't twist the bolts off as they are usually rusty as heck, but take it off, and at the minimum, clean it out. Most of the ones I've had off over the years have been either so plugged up they couldn't vent if they wanted to, of they were just the opposite and couldn't seal if they tried. Regardless, it's just like a radiator pressure cap on a car. The radiator needs to build pressure to help cool the engine, as the higher the pressure the more heat the water can carry off before boiling. Most people overlook this when working on the old CAT's and it can make a difference if the valve isn't working properly.
