bleeding a new injecter pump on JD 450 straight

I cant seem to get the engine to fire. I have fuel at the injecters, it spits out , not a real flow when i crank it over. not sure how much fuel should come out of each line .
How much does it take to bleed all the air out ?
Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on how to get this going or what i may be doing wrong ?

If it is spitting shots of fuel out at the injectors you have bled the air out,there is not a continuous flow,is the mark on the pump drive shaft tang matched to the mark in the pump,the pump can be fitted 180° out,if you are sure those are correct,the filters are new,the tank has fuel [the more the better] bleed the system again,remove the return line from the top cover of the pump,open the filter bleeders,when air free fuel comes through close the bleeders,wait till fuel comes from the return port of the pump,put the line back,loosen each injector line a couple of turns and crank the engine over on full throttle,when fuel spurts out from the unions tighten them up and you should have a start,why are you fitting a new pump?.

Thanks AJ i am changing the pump to a new reman conversion pump the old one was leaking bad and had it rebuilt but the
trottle body was worn out.
I TDC the flywheel and the injection pump on the shaft , i had checked the old pump also that is was tdc and lined up with the
indexed bolt pattern on the timing gear that all checked out.
I was going to remove the timing gear window and check the mark again, that does drain the fuel from the pump.
When i checked the return line last nothing was coming out , only from the pump.
All the line were changed from the pump to the injecters also.

check shut-down cable adjustment--or if electric, verify voltage to it--you prob. got a new fuel return line fitting, but if you transfer old one, may be plugged.
 
I asked why you changed the pump because I needed to know that the engine was a runner before the change,there is a small pressure valve in the elbow on the return line,remove the elbow and see if clear fuel will come through,when it does put the elbow and line back,you can bleed the injector lines like I said in the other post,if you still don't get it to start you need to check the timing,you will probably have to remove the rocker cover,bring the engine around to the timing mark,the two valves on #1 cyl should be closed,i.e. the tappets should have clearance,if not turn the engine 180°,now the match mark should align in the timing window of the pump,if not the pump timing needs altering.

The pump is self-bleeding as long as it is getting air-free fuel. Best way to make sure a pump actually works is try it before you bolt it to
the engine. Just squirt diesel fuel into the inlet fitting while turning with a big screwdriver. Even at that slow speed - if the pump is
good is will start to turn hard and "click" as it clears itself out and then start to pump high-pressure fuel.
 
Hey jdemaris, hadn't seen you post much lately. Didn't you have a bunch of stuff in NY you had to take care of?

Yes, I'm still working at it. I'm in NY right now making what I think is my last trip, trucking pars and equipment.
 

Well all is working great now ! new pump is working fine , no more leaking , engine seems to run better, maybe my imagination! After the learning curve as i am a cabinet builder not a mechanic, i believe i could now walk anybody thru the conversion kit install !
