Looking at a 1972 Case W 7 E Diesel in the 3K range. Any thoughts good or bad. Just for my personal use. Maybe push some snow and load my 10 yard dump truck. Not for hire just a little personal fun.
Give me the good and or bad. thank you

I have a 1960 something W 7 tough old machine.Mine was used hard before I got it but it starts up good, easy on fuel, and does what I ask of it.Mine also has a set of forks that I use to move fire wood.I also like fact it is old school so even I can work on it. Hope this helps Neil

I don't remember what model Cases I looked at before buying my Cat loader. Would have bought a Case if I'd found a decent one. My Cat 944 was the answer to my dreams. Weighs 24,000 lbs and has a 4-in-1 bucket, about 3 yds.

These old loaders are always cheap, a real bargain. I put teeth on my bucket, digs very well. My track loader went to a new home. I've roaded mine several times to move things for neighbors. Another coming up, moving a log cabin to a burn pit. Very convenient machines to have around, so cheap you don't mind it just sitting there. Mine lives on a mountain, driveway rising 400' elevation. My seller was shocked at where I was going to run it, and did suggest I repair the brakes.

I never tested a loader with functioning wheel brakes, sellers always said "no need", so when the brake lines got pulled off by brush, they weren't replaced. Those owners didn't live where I do.

Funny, it was a posting almost exactly like yours that got me started. An Aussie named Deas Plant guided my search, he had an incredibly broad background. His first question was what I wanted to do with it. Articulated would have been wrong for me. Haven't seen Deas around here for several years now.

Good luck with it.

You can find Dea's Plant over on the Cat site ACMOC,he's a good sport, those old Case machines were ok once looked after, and as someone pointed out earlier simple to work on with no computer control to be going wrong.

Thanks AJ. I had a thread there once about lack of power from my 944. Turned out to
mostly be needing a governor rebuild. The depth of knowledge those guys had was
startling. The only tractors I know are the few I've owned.

This year my problem was no brakes, but I figured that out. Air compressor after 50
years called it quits. Neither Bendix nor Cat supported it but I found the wear parts
and rebuilt it. Ready for another 50 years? Brakes now are better than ever.

Deas had me emailing him links to every big loader I unearthed. Names I'd never heard
of, but he knew. Scoopmobile? Then I asked him about 944, which he hadn't mentioned.
He said to buy it if it was in decent shape. Been my pride and joy ever since. Large
job coming up for it shortly, but mostly it's my all-purpose tractor.

Those ACMOC guys were surprised when I mentioned my 944 should scamper up 30% slopes,
and did again once the governor was working.

Look like you are heading for the highland games in Scotland,Jock won't toss that caber very far,the value of the 4 in 1 bucket is very well illustrated in the picture its equal to having an extra machine, nice looking loader.

LOL... thanks. Keeping logs clean has rewards when you're doing your own milling. That
one wasn't the butt log, maybe the second log. Sometimes I mill long timbers, 40' or
more if the tree is large enough. Anybody wanting a huge beam will pay a premium. This
is enough tractor to move anything I need moved.

I did a lot of head-scratching trying to figure out that widow-maker canopy. Not an
option here, required. They get dented.

This tractor came out of a small gravel pit, a different life from here. Guy who sold it
delivered it, and was shocked I'd use it on my mountain. Works great. Deas was right.

That's a steal for 3 G , YOU WILL HAVE TONS OF FUN and parts are still available . I just bought a 920 Cat and best thing since sliced bread ! so darn handy around the farm , not to mention the heavier snow winters we are now getting .
