TD-6 inj, pump

A tooth off would be very noticeable,if advanced it would have a lock up effect when cranking and have a very heavy diesel knock if it started,if it was a tooth late it would pour out blue smoke and have no power, check the spill timing,I cannot remember where the timing marks were but you need to get #1 cylinder on compression stroke TDC,then go back a quarter turn, turn off the fuel, remove the injector pipe from #1 cylinder on the pump.remove the delivery valve holder and remove the valve, put the holder back,if you have an old pipe or use a piece of plastic like in the drawing and attach it to the pump, turn the fuel on,fuel will spill from the pipe, turn the engine by hand in the normal direction till the fuel flow just stops, that is the start of injection, check now if the timing marks match up,they should.

no you can not. the gear will only go on the pump in one position. when the pump is out the gear has a lot of movement but not enough to change gear engagement. before you loosened the pump to remove did you write down the pointer reading on the gear? get a manual. pump timing is the same procedure on gas start diesel ihc, farmall from td6 to td14 with ihc pump or bosch. good luck.
