Deere 450B track

I have a 450b crawler and it needs a steering clutch. Tried to remove track tension by removing the square head bolt with jam nut and nothing happened. So I cut the track pin and removed the track. Track frame had a broken bolt where the front cross member attaches and I wanted to fix that. Well in order to get frame off I need to remove the tensioner piston... how can I do this? Tried wrapping a chain and pulling it with a ratchet binder to blade, and tried turning with 4 foot pipe wrench. Any tips/tricks to getting it away from spring holder? Thanks Matt

I have had to cut them out of the spring assy and replace the adjuster shaft more than once. They only go into the spring assy a couple inches. Sounds like it is seized into the adjuster bore though? Now that the track is off can you pump the adjuster out with the grease fitting? Sometimes you have to heat the barrel up if the rod is seized in there. If I remember right, once you pull that sq head bolt, there is a small steel ball under it, don't lose it, put a rag over tje fitting to catch the grease with the ball in it. Maybe I'm totally misunderstanding your question too....
Good luck

Thanks for the reply. How do you cut it from the spring assembly? Part of the track frame that holds the spring holder in covers where the piston enters and I can barely see under it let alone cut with any accuracy. Thanks again. Matt

Doesn't that B model have the cover over the spring that can be removed? That shaft is hollow at the spring end, I would cut them off in front of the spring holder, then slice the tube on each side until you can knock the pieces inward and pull them out.

I pulled mine out with the six way blade and a chain. Chained them to the blade started it up swung the blade. Don't know if you have a six way though.
