This is my first post on CRAWLERS---I have a MF 500 dozer with a weak v-8 Perkins. I also have a v-8 out of 860 MF combine. What are the chances of a easy swap---putting the combine engine into the 500 ??? Has anybody ever did this? Thank You !!

Never seen an easy swap even from the same model there would be always something different, the 500 has a V8-510 8.4Lt engine and the 680 has a V8-540 8.8Lt,it would be my guess that it will fit,why do you say the 500 engine is weak,is it bogging down when you are dozing or is the losing power through the drive train.

It is getting a lot of compression in the radiator-blows lots of antifreeze out. The 860 engine only has 2200 hrs.

Right it's shot I would go ahead and change it,both the 510 and the 540 were used here in the UK in the same model Dodge truck decades ago, so it should fit.

Don't know for sure what is wrong. But I have this 540 out of one of our demo combines with only 2200 hrs. on it. Next winters project.

When you are doing the change over play attention to the radiator as there must be a reason for the overheating problem you are having now,we classed those engines more suitable for machinery use than trucks as they were low in torque at slow speed,as engines go they were ok but like all V8's were grumpy and sounded rough on low idle,I think the 510 came out in the mid sixties, your 500 looks nice.
