Bent swing cylinder rod

Hi guys. I got a 580ck with the model 33 loader backhoe. I wan in the process of repacking the swing cylinders on the backhoe and I stupidly bent the chrome rod part of the left swing cylinder. 2 questions: can it be straightened if not does anyone know where to try to find a replacement. I did some digging on the case site and I think I can order just the rod but $849. Any help would be great. Thanks.

If you got an engineering shop near you that has a proper commercial hydraulic press they should be able to straighten it for you, they will probably say if it snaps in the progress the onus is on you,you can Google the part number of the rod and see what it brings up,also you can search on Machinery Trader at the link below under Find parts and attachments on the left of the opening page.

Find a hydraulic repair shop. They can make a new one, usually not too expensive. Had a number of them done when I worked for the State Dept of Trans. IIRC, no more than 150 to 200 dollars.

Just Google Bailey Hydraulics Knoxville Tn best folks in the world to work with, they can get you going cheaper than you can mess with it.

The pin that holds that swing cylinder in is stuck so in process of cutting it out we swung the boom over on a dolly and the gland but came out because it was u screwed and it got jammed unde the pivot pin of the backhoe and started to bend the rod. Stupid rookie mistake!! Got the gland nut un stuck and rod doesn't look as bent as originally thought be still gonna pull it and make sure it is actually straight not " just by eye" straight!

Like AJ says if it is not bent too bad; find a shop with a good press. Straightened a lot of them over the last 40 years with good luck.

This is a common problem with that model 33 backhoe. I had bad leaks and used a straight edge to check the rod. After I removed both swing cylinders, I had a local hydraulic shop look at them. The shop foreman saw them in the back of my truck, said, oh old 580CK, the rod will be bent due to the geometry. Had both rods replaced, tubes honed and packings replaced. They used SS rods. No more leaks. $750 for both. This shop does hydraulics of large logging equipment and made me up a kit of all the correct o rings to deal with a bunch of small leaks.
