Fiatallis steering problems when cold.

Hi I have a FL7B that doesn't want to steer until it warm for a while sometime a hour but once it steers it good.
All I have is a part book on the machine but I read someplace that sometimes the input line on the steer pump is loose and suck air and when its warms it seals up. Sounds like my problem but how do I get to the pump?
Thanks for any Help.

It would be my guess that it is more likely the suction strainer needs cleaning, the oil won't go through it when it's cold and thick but does when it warms up and gets thinner, its a while since I had anything to do with one of those and can't remember the pump location so you can check the pipe.

It's my first dozer work on this machine looking at the parts book it really doesn't show much, I have a old Dynahoe and a 1956 case dozer old bob cat easy to get to stuff and see hose routing.
Do you think this screen is in line coming out of the rear-end below the clutch control values?? there a big pipe 2" by 10" bolted that has a small line running off of it I'm thinking it could hold a round screening in it???.
Thanks for any infor. and thanks for the reply.

Off hand I can't remember as those machines were scarce in my area, find the pump and trace the lines back, the parts book should show the pump.strainer and filter, sometimes if there is moisture in the oil and if it's cold the oil can gel up,you will have to nose about and find out where things are as they are service items that need attention now and again.

thanks for your help.
I'll look to see what I can figure out and let you know.
thanks for your time.

We've got a Fiat Allis 10 dozer. The steering gets better when the oil warms up but doesn't take that long. Spec says Series 3 SAE 10 below 0C, SAE 30 above.

It pulls oil for steering and brakes from the crown wheel case through a filter on the front of the case below the driver's left foot. The oil specs in the other post don't seem to mention a separate crown wheel case so this might not be applicable to you.

I think some of the regulars at "Unofficial Allis" have these machines so you might try the question there.

thanks for the information I'll try the other site and ask.
I notice a oil dip today and I had a little time so I pulled the belly pan off had gallons of oil that came down on me. It has a leak some place. The dirt on the belly pan I guess was keeping it from leaking? My guess after it stops dipping it might be the input line to the pump is a problem. Hopefully it not the pump. Alot of dirt cake up in it.
thank you for your help.
I give update as I find stuff .

If it is like ours there is a fair bit of plumbing in there.

But with it all cleaned up you should be able to sort it out.

Based on our dozer it will be worth the effort

I'm planning to clean it up I did get the belly pan down the other day need to let it dip for a couple of days, looks like a gallon of oil came out when I drop her.. but looking at it from the side the only thing I could seen other then dirt was the transmission pan... I have a alot of cleaning wish I had water hose near by.... but that's life and I will figure something out to help out...
thanks for your replys

I'm following you at Unofficial Allis here as I'm not current there.

Not sure where you got your manual or if things went downhill at FA but the official one for our FA 10 would rate among the best I've met

Hi,
I looked at the FA10 manual it is much better then the FL7b one it shows much more then each part as it's self. But as I get to know the machine it will not be a problem.
I'm just new with her and until I dig into something and not able to see how things connect together. It needs a top sheet in the parts manual for each section. It would be a great help.
But yes I understand because it's always more fun making something then writing about it or drawing it........
thanks for your help

Hey Guys
I went out there with air loosen the input line to the steering control valves and pushed a small alen key up the along the input hose and tube to get the air out took some time. seem like 10 min's to get the oil to get to the input tube of the pump. anyway pull the alen key out started the machine nothing??? I connected the air back in and notice so me bubbling from the hose I loosen to steering control valve so I kept the air flowing and turn on the machine in a minute or two the oil was flowing shut her down tighten the line started her back up nothing????(The Steering) anyway did it again loosen the line to the valve pumped air, oil flowing again a couple of big bubbles popped out then she was flowing good left about a gallon get out this time I figure that is about the hose routing amount. She steers great better then ever. I need to tell you the flow is not high on that pump not like a hydro pump more like a engine oil pump and low psi. So My guess it's can take a licking and keep ticking????? So now I just need to grind off the rust paint up the Belly pan and drill out a couple of broken bolts on the pan.and spray a little oil under there yes I know makes thing dirty but best thing to keep the rust down.
Thanks for your help and information.
