580C Hydraulics
I have a 580C with the backhoe on it. Tractor is healthy and works well. I would like to add a remote to run a hammer or thumb. Some hydraulic questions for a 580ck turned up very useful information from knowledgeable people. Hopefully the same people can help me. Any insight to prevent unforeseen pitfalls would be helpful.

580C and 580CK are two different machines, what equipment is on the backhoe, has it got extend-a-hoe,if it has the usual way to plump in the hammer/thumb circuit is tap into each of the extend-a-hoe lines at the top of the boom with two tee pieces, bring the lines down each side of the stick to two quick break couplings to connect to the attachment,to use the attachment the extend-a-hoe is pulled in and the locking pin installed the rod in the cylinder now can't move and the pressure goes through the attachment,if it does not have the extend-a-hoe look at the valve chest to see if it's got a spare valve,if it has the hammer/thumb circuit can be plumbed into it and the lines brought from there to the stick.

I would be more concerned if the machine has enough hydraulic GPM flow. Some later model machines have to have hi flow hyd to run a hammer

I am aware they are different tractors. I saw the thread about adding a remote to a CK and mEl , jon f mn and some others had input that seemed helpful and knowledgeable. I was hoping to acquire some of that experience. No my tractor does not have an extendahoe. I have not found an extra remote of any kind. I do not plan on running a 1000 pound ram and beating the crap out of the tractor, but we do have a lot of rock here. A 750lb ram for a mini excavator will probably be what I mount.

Most 750-800lb rams require 20-25gpm@1500-2000psi (depending of course on model). Is it feasible to add an additional remote in the return line between the hoe control valve body and the loader valve body? An open center valve in the return side should operate no different than the hoe valves correct?

Yes,you can directly connect an o/c valve to the outlet of the backhoe valve chest and connect the return pipe to that, you need to keep to the same size i.e if the return pipe bore is 3/4 the valve should be 3/4 as well, check on the specs of the hammer you intend to get, there are certain makes of hammer that require an inch return directly to the tank while others are ok through the valve with the machine size pipework, the thumb will work from the setup as well, the oil flow of the C is 24GPM but that is at 2000 rpm, rather than having to use full throttle while breaking a 20GPM hammer will be less strain.

Thanks for the input AJ. I planned to use 3/4 id valve and lines.
I have a lot more research to do on hammer selection. I'm not
sure I'll have a hammer on it any time soon, just want to get it
ready. It's a good tractor and I'm trying to keep it that way so
your help is appreciated.
