A friend bought a little ground. Included in the deal was a crawler with a cable dozer. he says the only tag he can find says the machine weighs 32,000. He says it's a diesel.

I was wondering if it might be a D7 cat?

he is going to get pics next week.

Just guessing without pictures, at that weight and cable blade it could be a D7 17A series. The one I used to skid logs with years ago was an early 60's vintage. A good old cat for them days.

Bare tractor will be 24,000 lbs., + PCU/CCU, belly pan, rock guards on track frames if equipped, dozer kit etc. Sounds about right for one of these.

If it's yellow, I suppose it would be the 1-ton canary's older brother, the 16-ton canary. If black, it's a Monty Python prop.

D-7 or D-8 or even a D-9 or 10. All at one time had a cable blade set up and where big and heavy. Shoot I have a Cat 950 that is said the be 40K

serial # should be on the back side of the tractor. As you stand at the back of the dozer, look at the upper left side. Should be a tag there.

Reading this post again, the tag that states the weight, may also state the tractors dimensions, width, height etc. If it has a raised letter metal plate on the side of the seat, its likely a military or government purchase order tractor.
Caterpillar attached serial number tags per the photo, on these era tractors. In any case we can wait til next week to see the photos, which are always interesting!

ya , it could be any make . Internationals were very popular up here and there are stil a few around TD15- TD25 . The color is usually a dead giveaway and the heavy weight is what the srcappers like .
