Wonder what the REST of the story is?

Looks like it was placing those boulders along the beach when it got bogged, tide came in and covered it,they should be able to recover it.

Judging from RUST, it looks like it may have been there for a while???

Our diesel mechanic son recently had a call to a wharf area where they were rebuilding a boat ramp and had sunk an excavator.

Taped up all possible inlets.

Not that far down but at high tide only the warning light on the cab was showing. They got it out next day with a winch truck and more excavators.

It had 23 hours on it

"Somewhere" I have a picture of a Case trackhoe with only the knuckle of the boom sticking out of the water. Long painful story of how it got there.

I remember seeing a series of pictures once, and I think this was one of the series. The excavator was working on the breach somewhere that the tide varies ALOT. It had been digging a hole and got stuck in the bottom or it for some reason. The series shows the tide coming in and covering the machine until there was nothing left showing but the tip of the dipper. As the tide retreated more and more of the machine began to appear until what was left was the pic your seeing now.

As far as the rust on the dipper, this is normal for a machine that has been working with that part of itself actually being in the salt water most of the time, while the rest of the machine sets above the water line.

Might a vandal have started it up and dug a hole and drove it into it for fun like one did in the two pictures attached.it pays to demobilize equipment in remote areas.

If I remember correctly that was the case of a disgruntled FORMER employee. Guy got canned, went to the remote sight the following weekend and "got revenge". I believe he's still doing time over it.
