air compressor-slight knock

Forum Members,
Have an older oil bath type 5hp compressor that seems to have a slight knock when running. The knock is intermittent and a surge protector on the same outlet flickers when the knock occurs. Have never done anything with the compressor since new- 15-20 years. Any and all thoughts welcome.

AJ,
Thanks- '98 electric 5hp DeVilbiss- pump knocking- very little oil- 4-6/16 oz!?!?!?! Drained and refilled it last night with air compressor oil and believe it to be the right medicine:) Also checked the reeds and filters. Cleaned both. For a time there is was an oil less compressor :( Time will tell if caught in time!!

Hope you saved it,now that you are getting the taste of what will happen if things are neglected you need to look round all your mechanical stuff and check the oil levels and top up anything that is low,it is easier to put in a few pints of oil than change a gearbox or engine etc, good luck.
