Hello all, I'm new to this forum, recently purchased
My 2nd TD9 motor is stuck from sitting was wondering
If these engines are a sleeve engine or not? And are
Parts readily available? Any info is greatly appreciated

TD 9 B has the 6 cylinder d282 and yes it is a dry sleeve engine but I believe the other poster is right about the 4 cylinder being a wet sleeve engine. Think he was talking about the older 4 cylinder unit.

It's the four cylynder engine, starts on gas switches to diesel
Where's the best place to get head gasket, rings etc ?

I have a 1954 TD9 that I restored. I can tell you that they do have dry sleeves, and that the parts are rare as hens teeth, and very expensive. I can tell you that the 1953 TD9 came with a 4.4 inch bore and that shortly thereafter, I think around 1956, International came out with the TD9-91 series crawlers that had a 4.5 inch bore, once again with dry sleeves. I understand that one of the problems common to the TD9 was that they were very bad about cracking the head, so if you decide to overhaul the motor, be sure to have the head magnafluxed, as it very well could be cracked. When I overhauled my TD9, the head was cracked, so I ordered another head with a valve job from a large heavy equipment salvage yard pretty expensive. The sleeves were to worn to just hone out, so I had them bored out to 4.5 inches as I had found a complete overhaul kit minus sleeves for the TD9-91 motor. When all was said and done, everything went together great and it runs great. Altogether I rebuilt the motor, the undercarriage, the injectors, sandblasted and painted everything and had a great time doing it. Good Luck Eddie Olive

Thanks for the information. I have a 51 Td9 that I use fairly
Often, I bought this 53 as a parts machine but had thoughts
Of restoring it instead, idk

I had one a while back. I rebuilt it from the ground up. Not all new parts, but a lot were. Had the head heat treated. When I worked the 9 beside an AC HD 5, I was sadly disappointed. That old 5 worked rings around that TD 9. The head finally cracked so I unloaded the whole machine to a mister fix it guy. He never did anything with it. Most of the 9's died ahead of their time. It really wasn't a very good machine.
