Adjusting clutch fingers on oliver oc3?

I have an early oc4, which I believe uses the same clutch as an oc3. What is the procedure for adjusting pressure plate fingers during installation? My manual is for a newer machine with 3 cylinder and different clutch. Thank you,
Josh

Yes the early OC 4 with 4 cylinder engine uses the same clutch as the OC 3. With the clutch installed adjust the screws on the fingers until they are 1 and 11/16 inches above the flange of the hub. The most important thing is that they all be the same.

Since when was any OC4 ever made with a four-cylinder engine? News to me. All I know of, OC3s came with Hercules four-cylinder gas engines or Continental four-cylinder diesels. OC4 came with Hercules 3 cylinder gas or diesel.

My factory book shows five different engines used in OC4s and OC46s. ALL three-cylinder. Hercules DD-130 diesel, DD-130H diesel, GO-130 gas, G)-130H gas, and GO-13X8 gas.

If you have something the proves different - I'd like to see it.

HGs used two different pressure plates over the years - Auburn and Spicer. OC3 and OC4 only one.

I'll believe it if I ever see any sort of Oliver documentation. Otherwise - how do you know those engines weren't swapped in at some point?

I couldn't find anything from oliver except the brochure in the link. It doesn't list specs, but I think the two views of the machine show a flathead ixb3 pretty well. My understanding was that the first 2 years if oc4 production had sheet metal like the fleetline tractors and the ixb3 engine. Thanks for your help on the clutch adjustment,
Josh

Do you sell parts? I am looking for a workable grille for an early oc4. All that is left of mine are the two side pieces attached to the radiator. Thanks,
Josh

Yes the OC 4 was made with the 4 cylinder IXB3 engine. One in 1956 the rest in 57 & 58 they had a *TG*** serial number. Look in the serial number section on this site and it lists them. I have a 4 cylinder OC 46 loader and all the Oliver parts and service manuals to go with them. But I have never seen any reference to an OC 3 with a diesel of any kind!

This is supposed to be a factory photo of the first year OC4 that came out in 1956. I assume this is the grille you are looking for?

There was only one OC 4 built in late 56, real production did not start until 57. They had the 4 cylinder engine only until early 58 when the diesel model was introduced so that WOULD BE A 58 PHOTO NOT FROM 56. The rest of the data on the diesel is correct. The 4 cylinder gas and 3 cylinder diesel where both produced in 58 until late in the year when the 3 cylinder gas replace the 4 cylinder engine. At that time the sheet metal was changed. A couple of years later production was moved from Cleveland to Charles city and sheet metal changed again as the series B came out.

You might want to read the extensive article in the Nov/Dec 2007 issue of the Hart-Parr Oliver Collector magazine on the OC 4 & 46.

The problem with a lot of these info-sources are they are based on secondary info and not primary sources. I can say, for sure, I've got piles of Oliver info here, but it is ALL secondary. So I any such info with a "grain of salt" until someone shows me genuine primary docs like shipping lists from 50s Oliver archives or a purchase-receipt from the year in question. One of my "secondary" sources shows OC-3s starting at serial #15WH305 starting in 1956. OC3 serial #s 19WH090 starting in 1957. OC4 starting with serial # 1TG002 starting in 1956. OC4 starting with serial # 1TG004 starting in 1957. OC4 starting with serial # 4TG076 starting in 1958. OC4-3G starting in 1958 with serial # 1WR002. OC4-3D starting in 1957 with serial # 1WD002.

your kidding right none i have have been retro fit i have cut up maybe 10-12 others and still have 5-6 in the lot one is a pipe layer sold by a close dealer and i will have to dig but have a parts manual with 4 cylinder in it not 3 cylinder have bought several from local muck farmers we had two strong Clectrac dealers in this area because of the muck Don Howard's was huge so have seen many and am sure Landis will agree and should have print

I dug through some actual Oliver records. They do, indeed show the IXB3 used in OC4s in 1956 and 1957. Also show, for sure, that Oliver made the OC4 in 1956 and 1957.
