ATF and acetone

Forum Members,
Has anyone used the combination of ATF and acetone as a rust solvent? Have heard of the others: candle wax, PB, anti seize and WD 40. Any and all thoughts welcome.

It works good for me. Just mix what you will use at one time or keep mixed liquid in a sealed container. If kept in a regular squirt oil can, acetone will evaporate some and leave the ATF. Maybe I just have a cheap squirt can that don't seal tight.:>)

I use straight ATF no acetone and it works very very good and cheaper then most any other thing. Turpentine also works real well but getting hard to find now days

i have used it but find the mixture separates--tried mixing atf with diesel and seemed to be more homogeneous.still like Kroil oil better but it is expensive so only for small quantitys

its the only fluid I use,it does separate tho but no big deal, keep jar sealed as said earlier, cheap to make by the gallon too

Yes I use it and have had very good results. I keep it i a squirt oil can, and give it a good shake before I use it.

A block of oak and a ten pound sledge work best for me. Once I get it moving I sand the cylinder walls and use any old oil.
