roosa master cdc

I am looking for a part source or a entire rebuilt injection pump cdc431 6dg for my jd 450 crawler.
I have had the seal and o rings done but need throttle gear and related parts.
Does anybody know where I can look?

thanks

Those pumps have not been rebuildable since the
1980s. There were a few shops patching them
together with used parts. Especially a CDC pump
that was replaced with the CBC and is also long
obsolete.

Can you reverse the throttle pinion gear and get
more life out it? Usually you can flip it over
180 degrees and make it work IF the rack isn't
worn out.

I had a shop overhaul it last year they did seals and rings and the like. Said it didnt leak on the bench test but when the trottle bar pressure is on it pours out!
I have heard there is another pump that will work and a adapter kit, you heard of these?

JD i am not sure what u mean by turning it over.
do you mean the throttle gear? as in the throttle lever being on the inside towards engine instead of outside as it is now?

mc

I had one go up on my 2520 back around 1990, and couldn't rebuild it then. I wound up replacing it with a JDB pump, and new injector lines, which wasn't real cheap, but have never had another problem with it. I think the old pump is still over in the tool shed....

it appears the jdb pump that was to fit my machine is no longer available.

BUT great news in a last ditch effort to see if John Deere had a suggestion I find out there is now a remanfg that replaces the cdc 431 it is jd part # se500553 $1200 bucks cdn ! no lines to change nothing bolts on! Got one arriving tomorrow it was stock in Southern Ont no less!!!
Maybe JD realizes how many of these things are still in use?

read my reply to donjr about the pump replacement!
When it is installed, running and not leaking I will update you.
Oh on a side note I contacted Ralphs diesel,{I got the info from a older post of yours} You were right the son flat out said he would not work on it. Offered to help find me parts but don't send him the pump! lol
On sadder note he mention his dad had past on !

MC

I doubt John Deere has anything to do with is and also doubt the pump is truly "rebuilt." I bet it is just a used, patched-up CBC pump that is nearly a bolt-on replacement for a CDC pump. I was working for a Deere dealer when parts support was discontinued for the C pumps back in the 80s. At that time - Deere offered retrofit kits including DB pumps (used, not new), lines, brackets, conversion drive-shaft, etc. JDB pumps are still easy to find. The other conversion parts - not so easy.

To "each his own" but no way would I ever pay $1200 for used, patched-up, obsolete pump. The money would be better spent finding a scrap engine somewhere and buying the pump, lines, and timing drive parts off of it.

By the way - the CDC and later CBC do have the same footprint and line hookups - but the drive end where they are fastened to the timing gear differs.

Now - if some company in China has determined a need and is remaking these old pumps - that would be pretty neat. THAT I would believe. Deere doing it - NO.

I did not know Ralph died. He was a good guy and bent over backwards to help out people with pump problems. In the later years - old Ralph did all the older tractor pumps and his son did the more modern automotive stuff. When I first met Ralph he had a small pump room inside a John Deere dealership in Cazenovia, NY. Later he opened up his own independent shop.

The gear I'm talking about is the round "pinion" throttle gear. It rotates against a rack-gear to make the throttle work. Only half of the gear gets used so often when the teeth wear out - you can just flip it over and use the unworn area to get new life out of it.

By the way - that part # you gave is for a rebuilt DB style pump and will NOT replace either a CDC or a CBC pump without different lines, brackets, pump drive, etc. At least according to the records I see. When I look up that part # I come up with a DB style pump used on 2020s and 450s.

i hear what you are saying, i have looked at old machines and the like, still have to have it rebuilt which seems to be around $800-900 us at most places plus shipping.I cannot find anyone in Ontario/Canada that will touch it! Say they cant get parts. My options are few, least this way if it fails i have desk a few miles down the road to plunk it on! Beats having a 5 ton lawn ornament!

I seen the same thing on Oregon ijections web site, they cross ref it to AR69819 but nortax, the JD heavy equip sales here says the part # is for the cdc. I questioned them on it and they called tech support and confirmed it will fit. They sent me a pic and all the line connections look ok for placement. Guaranteed me it is right!
NO fit no pay !! and back to sq one.

ok now i understand> my prob is the casing or tube it is in is worn and with the pressure the throttle puts on the lever it lets fuel past the rings. I paid a shop $600 bucks to tell me that!!
Now i got a cdc pump with all new seals rings and that gear is new also but cant get the sleeve parts that are worn. And the pump leaks like crazy at 3/4 throttle.
This pump has lasted 38 yrs +/- I am 60 , do the math! LOL

That's the slippery slope you get into when you start spending money trying to patch up a model C pump. I yeah -I understand the age-thing. I'm 62. I used to fix things wanting them to last forever. Now -I'm thinking 10-20 years from now - I won't care, and only that IF I'm alive.

The reality is -any of those rotary injection pumps can last virtually forever (with good lube fuel) IF you can at least buy small parts to patch them up now and then. With a C pump, you can't even do that.

Most pumps being sold as "rebuilt" have most moving metal parts used "as is" with very high hours/miles and no renewal process. It's usually just the small stuff that gets renewed like seals and low-pressure pump vanes.

Thanks for all the input on this. The advice is not lost on me!
I hope to install the pump Fri or Sat if things warm up>
How difficult is it to set the timeing up? never had to do that with the old one just took it off sent it away and then put back on.
For the $200 core charge and seeing myold pump was overhauled
I was wondering at the merit of just keeping it for another day!
for everthing but the throttle/govener rack.
Your thoughts?
