I have a bobcat 610 with stater problems,The stater stated to clash and not turn over the engine very well.So took off the stater and inspected it didnt look to bad the drive looked good just notices that the brass bushing was alittle lose so replaced it.Also took and looked at the flywheel with a mirror and apears to look not to bad looks like it has some were on top of the teeth ,as I dont have another to compare to..So put the stater back in and It does the same thing,as I took it out again it seems to be riding high on the flywheel teeth and then skipping and grinding,And I dont see any adjustment I could do to the starter.
Any help would be great Thanks

We have a 610 with the Wisconsin motor, had starter problems
last year. Their is no adjustment on the starter it only bolts in
one way. My guess would be its the drive in the starter itself.
The flywheel is likely ground down more than you realize or
can see. I would replace/rebuild the starter and solenoid and
the wires to it, seems the wire was acting as a current limiting,
so we replaced it. May you could oversize the bolt hole to get
starter on the teeth down on the flywheel ? It in a hard
spot to work on I know. Also their are timing mark on the
flywheel they are are to find. We had to adjust the points.
Hope this helps..

There was a guy having similar trouble with his 610 a while back,it had the Wisconsin VH4D engine, the trouble turned out to be that the cowling the starter was bolted to had cracked up and was allowing the starter gear to jump the flywheel teeth, check your starter is not moving when you are trying to start.
