injector pump timing

Well first of all exactly how or what did you have off. Did you pull the drive gear. You need to time it when you install the pump. Marks on the drive gear and the pump gear.

Rusted should be a d239 non turbo but could have two different pumps. One has a small round cover but still times with the gear and pump movement.

You should have set the timing before you removed the pump, put #1 cylinder on TDC compression stroke, that leaves all the keys in the timing train at 12oc,the pump is keyed to the drive gear hub or directly to the gear, loosen the nut on the shaft and break the taper, lift the pump off, line the key up and slide on the new pump, tighten the shaft nut, line the match mark on the pump flange and the timing cover, tighten the mounting, button up the rest, job don.

Thanks guys just got back to work. this is a non-turbo engine with a Bosch pump. as far as I know the the drive gear did not move. I have the pump back on and am in the process of bleeding the lines. At this point I think I need to pull the starter and get it rebuilt. Will get back to you later. Thanks so much.Rooney
