IH Scrapers

Could anyone enlighten me about an IH scraper model 4-8-55 serial number 5851 (hard to read). On original hydraulics.
Also a Bucyres International that has been converted to hydraulic, don't have any numbers. These scrapers are both approximately 12 yards.
Any particular traits, good or bad. Thank you

Darald At 70+ years of age I have learned to never say never. But checking 150 YEAS OF IINTERNATIONAL by C H Wendell I find no mention of wheel scrapers. During the 30 to 50s while they were coming on strong with crawler tractors there are countless photos of dozers pulling scrapers but all are vendor units like Wabco and Bucyrs Erie. I have been around ih equipment all my life and have never ran across a pull scraper made by IH. However they did make things for the war effort that never were sold so you may have one. I am thinking the model number you quoted may in fact be the date the unit was built.

We are the same vintage Jim, and like you I have been lifetime associated with IH and I have never seen a pull scraper until the other day, complete with the same IH badge indicating made in the USA.
The vin # badge is located on the left side of the front gooseneck, and painted red before yellow. I know about Pay Scrapers, Pay Line and Elevating scrapers but not this one. However I would like to buy this one as I am an IH collector and this is certainly rare. For more on IH scrapers google Inernational Harvester scrapers for many pictures.
