Re: Case 310 stopped moving

Since theres no steering clutches the brake bands are the only thing to keep one side from turning. Does your crawler just keeps on going forward when you pull the left lever back or does it stop altogether. norm

It only goes forward if you apply the brake and give it throttle. But only to the right. At first it moves with just throttle but then something starts slipping? so I have to apply more brake to make it move.

The way I understand these to work when you push on the left brake the machine will probably stop unless you have given it some throttle before you brake. if you clutch isn't slipping then the right side should continue to pull therefore turning you machine to the left. Push on the right brake and see if it turns that way to the right. The only thing that stops either side from turning is the brake bands or possible weak clutch. your oil is the correct oil.

310 are direct drive with a "differential steering" system, you do not totally stop one track just slow it down and the other speeds up, that said if it only moves when you apply one brake I am betting you have one side not driving, pinion gear, axle stripped/broken shaft ect

Maybe you are lucky and the coupler between the axle and the pinion broke. You would look in the final drive side of the track that won't move. Split the track and pull the final drive cover on that side.

So if it only goes right no matter what and the bands are good I need to pull the final drive cover from the rt side since I am braking the left side and the right track should still be moving? Do I need to pull the nut and drive sprocket to get that cover off?
Or am I pulling the bolts on the upper portion and taking everything off in one piece?

If it only turns right that means the left side
works. When you apply the right brake if nothing
happens when you pull the left side brake you need
to pull the right side final drive. It is
definitely easier to pull the final drive case if
you can pull the nut and sprocket. Then just pull
the cover off the final drive case and start
looking around. The pinion gear is on top and the
bull gear on the bottom. Hopefully it is just the
coupler between the pinion gear and the axle from
the differential.

Thank you. We pulled it to a level spot today and after it stops freezing here I will
get to this. The mud is frozen solid to it right now.

Pulled it apart this morning and it is the 10 spline axle shaft. Thanks for your help.

I know this is an old post but did you ever figure out why it only moved when applying the brakes? Mine won?t move unless I apply the left brake and it only turns left no right

There is something broke on the left drive train, drain the final drive and look for metal in the oil.

I broke a steering band that did this once and also a axle that did the same thing. I could move in one direction both times though. Both were
fairly easy to replace.
