i went today to look at a ford 555c backhoe it was in nice shape but the right brake didnt work not at all the pedel went to the floor is this much of a job to fix or do we have to send it to the dealer for repair thank you

I have a 655A. I believe it's the same. The whole rear axle housing has to come off to get in to the brake.

You can look up parts pictures on line through New Holland construction.

Did you look underneath to see if the linkage is hooked up?

Depends one where it fell apart. If inside the axle housing, you need to support the loader frame and drop the axle housing, and it's a mechanical brake inside the housing. Fairly involved project.

And if you allow too much movement between the tractor frame and loader frame, you run the risk of damaging some o-rings and causing the shuttle to not shift properly.
