HD4 tracks to HD3 Allis?

Forum Members,
Considering HD4 tracks for HD3 Allis. There is one possible hitch, HD4 are 14 inch and HD3 are 12 inch width?? Will it be a problem with clearing the 6 way blade lift assembly? Any and all thoughts welcome!!

A quick check with your tape measure will answer the question. I took a set of tracks off a H3 that had 14" pads and put those tracks on my HD4 with no issues. Those tracks I took off the H3 were aftermarket Bercos. If you have an inch or more clearance now with the 12" pads, 14"s will be fine. Tightest spot is usually the dozer lift arms. I just had to put 14" padded tracks from a Deere 1010 dozer to put on a Deere 1010 crawler loader and that WAS an issue. Seems loaders have thje lift-arms closer to the tracks. I had the choice of torching off an inch off one side of the pads - or just moving the tracks out wide. I did the latter. I moved the track frames out a little and shimmed out the sprockets to match.

J,
Thanks for the reply!
I would gladly do a quick measure except for one problem. The two sets of tracks are about 800 miles apart. Have taken pictures of my Allis and there is where I noticed the close proximity of the 12inch tracks to blade assembly. Seller of the HD4 tracks says they will work. Only other hurdle is to tell my better half that I plan to get my Christmas present early, forget Black Friday:)

How much for the tracks? Just curious. I did a lot of searching before I found mine. The ones I found were in excellent shape with 14" high-grouser pads. Paid $800 for the pair. My old tracks had all the links half worn out and all the pads loose and bent. So even if I had gotten new pins and bushings - they would not be in great shape. Once the chains were to a certain point - all the hardness is gone and they are pretty much junk.

J,
LOTS $$$$$. Supply and demand- limited supply and fairly high old timer demand:) Will divulge the price when I have sealed the deal. After reading your track description it may make me think twice about the HD4 tracks. The main flaw with my current tracks are the open bushings and when measuring five pins they are 100% worn.

The AC factory manual gives specs for measuring chain-link thickness so you know when they are worn past the hardness or not.

J,
That is something to check. They look narrowed down. I also have a '41 R2 Cat that has tracks that are hardly worn. I am sure the reason they are barely worn is that this '41 was a puller and only used in winter to move wood. No blade to push around. I will take your advice and check the link thickness when closer to the Arctic Circle in a few weeks. I do not have access to an AC manual but will try the internet.
