Oliver OC3 track drive malfunction

The left hand track on my OC3 won't reverse. It goes forward O.K. but when put into reverse it "judders" and makes a worrisome grinding sound. Please advise as to possible/probable underlying problem and repair options. Thanks. Dick Waite

Sounds like you've got a bad bearing in the
final drive and the gears are pulling away from
each other. But it hurts my head to think of
all the possible causes. That steering
differential in the middle of the trans is also
suspect since they have bolts that loose and
fall apart, at times.
My Case 310 is also starting to "shudder" when
I back up and I suspect a loose bearing. Case
has the same transaxle that your Oliver has
(made by Clark).
There are no clutches anywhere so it has to be
a metal part problem.

first thing is to check all oil levels in your final drives. if you have one that is empty then that's most likely where your problem is. if there still full of oil then it may not be in your final drives. you can also drain the oil from them and see if theres any metal that comes out. If you have any questions just email me. norm in missouri

Hi Dick, hopefully its just a final drive bearing
for you. If it ends up being more serious, let me
know, I have a lot of those trans and finals
laying around. Ross
