starter whirring on 65 case 450

When I turn the key the starter just whirrs and no start. I had it rebuilt a few years ago but maybe it's pooches again?

What did you do to rebuild it in the past? Have a '65 HD3 Allis that whirrs after a few cranks. Seems with a lot of amperage at the get go it works well. Talked to a starter/generator shop and they said the driver is losing its lock in capability. HTH

Well I removed the starter and took it to a starter shop to rebuild it. Had to have been a year ago now. I imagine the starter should last longer than that.

I will try a different battery and see if that changes things.

Make sure the battery and connections are good,check on the light wire going to excite the solenoid is good,cross that terminal with the main battery cable to eliminate the switch and wiring,still whirring it is probably the starter clutch commonly called the Bendix that is slipping.
