Friend has a ford 555e or new holland 555e
Plate say new holland boom says ford
Anyway tractor died towed it to the shop
Changed fuel filter got it running again now it won't move forward or backward
Anyone have any ideas
Everything front end and the back hoe work fine just won't drive
It's a 2 wheel drive not 4 wheel
Thanks

If it was a shuttle-shift aka power reversing and the driveline was not disconnected before towing, might have broke something in towing it.

Those are close to but not the same as the 4500s, and on 4500s 4 speed power reversing and Select-o-speed transmissions are supposed to have the driveline disconnected before towing.

On the cheaper side, perhaps someone actually did that before towing, and it hasn't been undone/re-engaged yet. One could hope that's it.

The 555E has an electric shift shuttle coupled to a 4 speed transmission, once it is in neutral its ok to tow it a short distance, you will have checked things like fluid etc,is the back-up alarm coming on when the shift lever is in reverse,if not and it has one that works it would mean the solenoid valves on the shuttle are not getting power from the F/R shift switch, check for any clutch cut out button or pedal it may have that they are not stuck in and keeping the clutch disengaged, check the fuses etc,if the alarm was not working go under the machine, put you finger tips on the solenoids on top of the shuttle and have a second person move the shuttle shift with the key on,if you can't feel the solenoids jump there is a problem between it and the shift switch, check any wires that may have got disturbed while working on the machine.
Good luck

Powertrain wiring diagram. May have to blow it up. Let me know if you cant read any part of it. Ross

Also have powertrain troublshooting chart, tried to take pictures of it, 4 pages, and upload it, but only about half of it is readable, must be too shaky trying to get the pictures. If you get it narrowed down, let me know I can look at it for you. Ross

I don't know for sure about the towing - I know that the 4500 era "4 speed power reversing" transmission has (IIRC) two torque converters (one forward, one reverse), but I believe the very high rear axle ratio that goes with that is why those and the SOS have the driveline disconnect to use before towing. I was merely speculating that the 555 might be similar in that way since it's not so far removed; but clearly there are folks with a better handle on 555's in the thread now.
