D4D break jumping

There is a d4d on craigslist, guy says the break is jumping a nut backed or or a bearing down. Its pretty cheap, but Im thinking if its an easy fix why hasent he fixed. Easy fix or something major broken? Thanks

Could be the brake anchor has come loose but its more likely the brake drum is jumping about due to the final drive pinion bearings been shot, drain the final for that side and see if there is any metal in it,to check if the drum is loose remove the rectangle plate on the back of the housing and stick a pry bar against the drum and check it for movement, there should be none,on top of the top cover there is another rectangle plate that the anchor is secured to,check the 4 1/2 bolts are tight and the 3/8 bolts that secure the plate to the cover.

Thanks AJ. Im kinda like you. Sounds more like something shot more so than loose.. Have a great day

I had a D4 that used to kick the brake pedal back when you put your foot on it and the cause was the final drive pinion bearing toasted, both clutches have to come out and the final stripped on the said side in order to get the pinion out,the sprocket has to be pulled and pushed not what one would call a handy fix,but check it out it maybe the lining has come off and is sandwiched under the band

Every time I see this thread title I think of a D4D doing a modern dance, not problems with the brake system. I don't know, it just strikes me as funny.

Yes that's a nice thought to have a some D4's doing a disco dance, you mentioning a dance give me a fond memory of an old timer who was driving an old D6 back in the fifties, the steering brakes were bad, after I replaced the bands and he gave it a test run I asked him how it was performing he replied it's waltzing AJ its waltzing,I can still see him going down the field turning left and right just like it was waltzing.
