650H John Deere starting problems

Would appreciate your thoughts on this problem. We have a 2001 model 650 dozer that has developed a bad habit of starting hard. It never started hard in the coldest of weather before this spring. You have to crank it for quite a while before it will light off. Seems as though the fuel leaks down after it sits for a while. We have replaced the fuel filters and the lift pump. There are no obvious leaks anywhere. I was wondering if there are any check valves that could be leaking.

Would appreciate your thoughts

Thanks

what does it run & push like after it gets started? Does it bog down some or all of the time?

sounds like something is plugging the line after you shut it off & when starting, it has to push fuel thru the plug, which frees the line until the next time. That would have to be in the tank or the line from the tank to the fuel transfer (lift?) pump. Could be the slime that grows in the tank that is between the water layer & the fuel. Take the line off between the tank & trans. pump & blow an air blast thru it, see what comes out. May have to drain the tank to get the black slime clear out. There are additives to put in the tank to stop slime from growing.

Make sure the tank is vented,if the vent is blocked the tank could have built up a vacuum during the days work and pulls the fuel back over night, just take the filler cap off and put it back again when you shut down for the night and see how it is in the morning, another good tip is to prime the feed pump till the lever goes limp before attempting to start, when you are cranking it over is it putting out blue smoke out the stack, check to see any wires connections attached to the pump are good, get a second person to turn the key on and off while you hold your fingertips on the solenoid, you should feel it jump.
Good luck
AJ
