HD3 left steering brake

Forum Members,
Happy Labor Day!
Just returned from northern Minnesota to find tornado watch in Minnesota today??
In the past weeks I had concerns about the steering clutches on the HD3. I used a forum recommended method to figure out if I had a left steering clutch problem. Turns out the steering clutches are fine. That means the problem may involve the left steering brake. How does one know if the brake is out of adjustment or simply worn out? How difficult is it to adjust or replace the brake band? Any and all thoughts are welcome!!

There is a plate on top of the brake/clutch housing. I believe 6/8 bolts. if you remove that you can see the brake band and you will see two nuts on the brake arm that can be adjusted to tighten it up. You can also with a good light see the band to check for wear. the band itself isn"t hard to replace as I think you take those two nuts off, pull threaded bolt out of pivot arm and you should be able to rotate it out. maybe some one else will comment if I am wrong. hope this helps. norm
