valves

I have a John Deere 450-B. I need to know if if the valves protrude
or recede in the head . The manual only gives the distance.

They are slightly in from the surface of the head.. I've seen them slightly protruding too.. Don't know if the seats weren't quite right for the application.. Maybe seats needed to be ground in a little more..

The valves protrude, don't have my books in front of me now for the spec. If the valves are recessed in the head, you will have a hard time starting it on a 50 degree day with out a sniff of ether
