CASE 420B CRAWLER 1968

A buddy of mine owns a CASE 420B CRAWLER 1968 that
won't run. I'm not close to an expert but whats
happens is it will run if 3/4 cover the air intake
thing on the carb. That air intake I think works
with some kind of an oil filter suction thingy.
Like I said i'm no expert.
The carb has been checked by about a dozen people
and cleaned many times and the 'experts' say its
fine. I have been told that there may be
something plugged that isn't easy to find. ?
The fuel pump is pretty much shot, diaphram is
seedy. I can't find anywhere, called everyone.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET A FUEL PUMP? Its
discontinued. Part # is G45778.

Any ideas why it won't run? Wires are new.
Distributor cap appears to be good. It does run
as I said above.

Also will it run without a fuel pump just gravity
fed?

The first thing I would be looking at is the control linkage for both the choke and the throttle, there maybe a bell crank turned the wrong way, part blocking the air intake has the same effect as putting the choke on,so it can't be working right if you have to block the airway, the other thing to check is the manifold joints to the head are good and the gaskets intact, also check there are no holes in the manifold where it could draw air,if the throttle shaft has worn the housing it can also draw air,the air cleaner is the oil bath type and is very effective, the bowl comes off the bottom where the oil is,on the side is a mark for the oil level, the design of the tractor called for a feed pump,no doubt if the fuel level is higher than the carburettor it will run on gravity,if you have a fuel injection shop near you they will repair your old pump even it is gas.

I think your best bet is to put an electric fuel pump on it. If it runs on gravity feed then your carb system is okay. If you block off part of the intake that is like choking it and it trys to pull the gas up to the carb. I just put an electric fuel pump on my 310 case. Only fuel pump I could find was $189. Lot cheaper with the electric fuel pump I got at the parts store. I also have one on my skid loader. they both work fine. Norm

THANKS ALSO TO YOU !!
I do have a couple electric pumps, one is 5-7lbs. Any idea what would be a good lbs?
I think besides the electric pump solution there is an air issue somewhere, as AJ suggested. I'll check that tomorrow.
Thanks!
:)

I run 3-5 PSI on electric fuel pump too much pressure is not good, volume is more important than pressure. I have mine on a separate toggle switch
