1937 RD4 cat info

We just bought a 36-37 RD4 cat with a homemade dozer blade on it. I started it the first time by pulling it. I cleaned the carb and a little tinkering with the mag and got the pony started. Im looking for info on everything about it. I need a governor belt for the pony before I can really do anything with it. Oils and capacities. Filter numbers.belt numbers. I also need an alemite grease adapter to fit the button fittings on this.

Ditto what Bret said, use care with the starting engine, keep the oil clean in it, check it each time before starting, for gas thinned oil and overall just use care.


The photos may be of help to you, and the link to Alemite, the standard button head fittings page, you may find products there of interest or for reference.

Also, Chevron Marfak in NLGI 00 may be the correct lube for the rollers, I believe it is, and you definitely want to use care, low pressure, volume pump, relief valve as shown in the photo, hand pump grease guns create a lot of pressure, can rupture seals, some know when to back off by feel, just something to know about them if you don't already.

IIRC, and I haven't read up on this in a while, an R2 would be a gasoline crawler of about 35 hp. An RD4 would be a diesel of about 45hp. Forerunners to the D2 and D4.
 
Thank you fellers. Weve been busy on other projects and havent had a chance to tinker with it in a few days. But the pressure relief grease gun is good to know about ahead of time. The alemite type one I have is smaller and it doesnt have a relief.
We have only ran it just a few nimutes so far but the engine sounds perfect. The pony needs a set of points and a governor belt but it sounds good too.
