went and looked at 951c today pics

went and looked at the 951c but not sure what to think about it. on the outside it doesnt look to beat up and abused and sounded pretty good running with very little smoke, mostly just when it cranked. but the big thing i see is undercarraige the sprockets are done to a point and i measure 5 pins and got 28 1/2 on each track which i think is pretty wore. on one side only felt 2 flat spots on the pins like it hadnt been turned but on other side i could feel 3 flat spots like it had been turned but maybe not a full half turn? and the pads are about 3/8 tall how tall are they new? the guy pulled it against a bank and showed that it would spin the tracks and showed all the gears and hydraulics worked, he said his bottom dollar is 6,200. but just not sure how long the undercarriage would last. here are some pictures of the loader what do yall think about it?any idea about how many hours the u/c might have left in it?

The outside of the pins you show look pretty good. i suspect the pads are fine. You probably should check to see what the rear sprockets would cost you and what It would cost you to have it done if you cant do it your self. Might ask a question on here to find out the weak/bad or good points. Dao your home work. Price doesn"t seem all that hi for that machine if it runs like you say. You can also find you a dozer mechanic and take him to look at it. Hope this helps. norm

Might just be pins and bushings, agreed on the sprockets, if it got new pins and bushings it should ride back into the sprocket root, but its hard to say if those are worn to destruction or could be left on, they are sharp. Not segments, so those would require the tooling, ie; puller or hire it out to get those off, and on. At that point you may want to go over the finals make sure those are ok.

I don't see, but the last photo is far away, that the pin bosses are riding the bottom roller flanges, so maybe the links/rails are ok, but worst case, pins bushings, links, pads for one of those are double bar, might be down to the pad bolts, they are hard to judge, as they are not aggressive with grouser height.

As is, without doing some work now, might then run til destruction, if those pins have been turned and that measurement is max or beyond, you have a lot of work to do with it, they may get loose enough to be a problem, more so with a lot of turning.

If it runs good, steers good and the transmission
works properly, $6200 is a good price even it
needs a new undercarriage. I suspect that's why
the low price. It looks like it was taken care of
by the pictures. The sprocket are toast and the
rails look like it too. You might be able to get
weld on sprocket rims, I/E just the tooth ring. I
think they might use D5 undercarriage but not
sure. You might even be able to find decent used
undercarriage. From what I understand a 951C is
basically a slightly smaller version of a 955K/L
without a turbo.

I, will wade in and let me say first of all I am not trying to be smart just giving you my experience and at 72 years old I have been in the equipment business for the last 30 years here in Tennessee. For the money here in Tennessee you sure can do better. that is a 30+ years old machine wit at least weak undercarriage. What you have to consider is the CRAWLER loader is a beast of the past, just no one wants them. Selling one Without a 4&1 bucket is just almost impossible. Go to any late model equipment auction and look at what crawler loader bring. I don,t know how far you are from Nashville but there are several auctions around there on a regular basis. You can get a newer loader for less money if you will look. What you can do with that unit is very limited. Just my opinion.

that is a problem jm. im in southern tn on al line.
there is not much around here, what i do find is like i posted,
wore out. im am not too worried about resale. i would always
have a use for what ever i get.

there is a good looking 941b with 4in1 loader with 60 to 70 %
undercarriage that i would like to go and look at, but it is in
La Vergne, Tennessee, atleast 3 hours away.

That is one I was talking about I am sure. L&L equipment is a good friend of mine Danny Logan. Been trying to sell it for a time. Ritchardson auction out east of Nashville a Leabon always has s good auction ever three months. What ever you do try and find one with 4/1 just a lot more things you can do with them. A 125 c or e dresser is a great loader. Never been a case fan but 850c is also a good seller.

Well by the time you buy the 6200 on and put a bottom on it you will be well over 8 grand. I THINK Danny would take something LESS that 10 for the machine. I know last auction they stopped at $ 7,200 or so and he rejected it, said he had to have more. Not sure of the date but he has an auction ever 3 months so early Sept he will have another. Would not be bad to attend if you haven,t found something by then.

I have had my 941B with 4in1 bucket for 30 years and love it.Very handy machine and have had no major problems.
If you go see the machine take the pin/bushing and link height measurements to check wear. I put new sprocket rims on mine when i got it.
Also on the 941B 4in1, check the top jaw hinge/pinboss area as they all have a tendency to crack and are usually welded up heavily.
