951c track loader

what are the good and bad on these 951c? in the pic , the pads look to be gone, but hard to tell in pic
might go look at it tommorow. what do i need to look for?

In general the 951C is a decent loader, how it was treated and maintained will be a factor, check to see that all the guards are in place around the engine and track frames, guards that are missing always prompts me that there was an issue under the guards and they get left off and lost or damaged,a machine that is intact shows the owner shows it respect, the 951 liked to keep its radiator clean.the engine to transmission coupling could give out from time to time esp if the engine alignment was out, look at the track frames both inside and out as they had a tendency to come loose if the machine was used in the demolition business, look around the sprockets for oil leaks, get the machine warmed up and see it pushes and steers OK,check the track chains bushes, secure the machine and stop the engine, check the bushes by sight and feel, your are looking to find out if they have been turned, for that you have to feel the back of the bush, see what meat is left on the link rails, the under carriage is a very expensive item should the lot have to be changed and depending on its condition it reflects in the price of the machine.look at the idler guides,if they are out near the ends of the frame indicates the chains are worn.the further back the better.
Good luck

I had one.. Really a great machine with one shortcoming... The track shoes are too narrow, and doesn't "mud" very well.. Got mine stuck several times and without getting creative with chains on the track shoes to stationary object , it would have cost some bucks to get another machine to pull it out.. I tried to push it out by rolling out the bucket , but got buried deeper.. Chains worked best for me..
