Adding adjusters on an allis hd crawler

I am working on an allis h4 crawler. When did they first start putting grease adjusters on these allis crawlers and how hard is it to convert these. thanks Norm

i am also trying to take the slack out of my chains. a real pain. i do not know when they added the easy type, but i wish it was before 1965....

My HD4 parts book shows them available for all as an option. I'd rather have the threaded-rod adjusters. Harder to adjust but they never loosen up. Easy to make from Grade 8 threaded rod.

I did get the right side to adjust. Had to use my skid loader to finally get the adjuster to turn but the left side is a no go. I am attempting to pull the track off to get it out. Seems to me the could have just put a large nut on the rod with out the threads inside and it would have worked fine. wished I had some thing to break this track with. to old to swing the sledge. thanks norm

I LUCKILY ADJUSTED BOTH SIDES OF MINE TODAY. I TORCHED THE BOLTS FOR THE LOCKING PLATE. LOOSENED THE PLATE, TOOK A 16 INCH ADJUSTABLE WRENCH AND PUT IT OVER THE ROD. TOOK A 4 FOOT CHEATER PIPE AND BEGAN TO WORK THE ROD BACK AND FORTH A 1/4 INCH AT A TIME. THE MORE I WORKED IT THE LOOSER IT GOT. I HAD TO HEAT THE YOKE ON THE FIRST SIDE TO GET IT LOOSE.

I put a big pipe wrench on mine. couldn"t budge it with the skid loader. put 12 foot pipe on it and used the skid loader. Bent he pipe in half. She is froze solid. I did get my track off. removed the adjuster. soaking it with penetrating oil before I take it to some one to loosen. This thing will be packed full of grease when I put it back. bad design by some one who probably never did or ever will work on crawlers/dozers.

IF YOU CAN FIND SOME NEVERSIEZE TO PUT ON THE THREADS IT WILL BE BETTER THAN GREASE. GREASE CAN DRY UP AND CREATE A GLOG. NEVERCIEZE WILL BE BEST IN MY OPINION.

I am planning on putting some stuff on the threads. The grease is just to stop any dirt/debris from getting up in there. thanks norm

DO YOU HAVE A DOZER OR LOADER & WHAT YEAR IS YOURS? PTO SHAFT? SIX WAY BLADE IF DOZER? HOW LONG HAVE YOU OWNED THE HD4? DO YOU DO WORK FOR THE PUBLIC OR JUST USE FOR YOURSELF?

Just work for my self. just basically a summer project. due to my physical condition I can only work on it couple hours a day but time really doesn"t matter. its a loader. not sure of year. haven"t found serial number. thanks norm in missouri
