Allis Chalmers HD5

Recently bought a HD5 with loader. Calls for special grease gun for track rollers and other various grease points. Does anyone know where I can get this grease gun. Or can I modify a regular grease gun. A picture of the correct tip would help alot.
Thanks

Not sure on that. Book says to use a needle tip on grease gun so as to not blow out rubber seals/boots. Never used anything like this so was wanting to know what it is and what it looks like.

RL,
I have two track grease guns. One for a '41 R2 Cat and one for a '65 HD3 Allis. They are rather big with the button head fittings. Alemite (sp) is the name of the gun and tank for holding the grease. You should be able to use a smaller grease gun with the expensive button head fitting. Last button head fitting I looked at was about thirty bucks!! Let me know if you can find a cheaper one. HTH

if you use a standard cartridge grease gun a pressure relief valve is recommended--but you can also be very careful and limit the pressure you apply by hand so you don't blow the seals.
Cat recommends 00 grade grease for these bushings/seals

What fitting, is it button head or similar ?

Lever gun can produce several thousand psi, volume or bucket pump, 500 psi per Alemite's specifications, see the links below, but look at their lever guns too, much higher psi, there is a relief valve, see the photo. If these are the same kind of roller like the old caterpillar ones, there is a concern about rupturing seals.

Typically, of that era, these volume or bucket pumps were used and track roller grease was used, 00 or 0, one of those NLGI grades would be similar, stringy, tacky lube, similar to chainsaw bar oil consistency.

Billy,
Tried to contact you this spring! Recently purchased a '65 HD3 Allis and had some questions. Forgot most of the questions:) One question was what type of grease should be used in the Alemite tank for the HD3 Allis. Need to lubricate the rollers soon. Another question is do the button head fittings come in different sizes? Any and all advice is appreciated!

Are you sure you have button head fittings. All of the ag
hd5's I have known had lifetime rollers They have hex plugs
and use motor oil. All info here for Alemite buttonhead is
good.

Alemite shows standard and giant sizes, not sure what variants there may be on the older track rollers and or similar applications that Allis may have had.

I'm going under the assumption that if Allis track rollers were similar and called for the same lubrication as the old style caterpillar rollers, then it should be what was called track roller grease/lube. I'm not sure if its in production, I recall Chevron Marfak, (see attached link) is an NLGI 00, 0, 1 grease. The Marfak NLGI 00 is recommended for crawler track rollers, see the attached cut sheets, where it states this. One I am aware of that should be the correct lube, though there are many out there, I am unaware of what the original specifications were by manufacturer, and the products called for then, something like this should suffice with the characteristics stated in the description.

Some of the caterpillar rollers called for 30wt, best to find out from the books on these A-C's. I am in no way qualified to comment on A-C crawlers, don't know much about those, be interesting to see what is called for thjough, and the information below does apply to some of these kinds of components, again, best look in the manuals and see whats what.
