H3 stuck steering clutch

Was on a tractor drive over the weekend and at one of the stops, I noticed a crawler torn apart in a mans garage. Had some time and walked over to see what it was. He was on his patio and came down to show me his crawler. The left steering clutch is stuck, as the lever does little to the clutch pack. Make sense? The right lever contacts the clutch almost immediately compared to the left one. The guy is up in age and his wife wants it gone before something happens to him. Can get the guys name and number if someone could talk to him as I'm 2 hours away. He lives in a small town of Tabor South Dakota, northwest of Yankton. thanks chris

what i did on my HD was spend several days soaking the clutch compartment in diesel, then drained it, and started with a chisel between the outside flange and the backing plate and beat the snot out of it for about 3 days before i got the plate to push in. once it started moving then i had to leave the chisel in, pull the dozer ahead a tad and get a second chisel and keep working the plate in towards the transmission. keep moving it and beating on it till it moves about 3/4 to an inch, then, like magic, just like the service manual says, it comes right up....

It took me about 3 days of beating on it, 7 chisels (stuck in once everything started moving), soaking it, hitting it with a rose bud and throwing enough 4 letter words at it that a sailor would blush, but it finally came out.

I do NOT want to do that again....ever.....
