Was talking to my new neighbor awhile ago and got started talking about the Navy and all the things you got to do in the military when young -vs- guys like him who didn"t join and what they were doing while we saw the world and took on major responsibilities. Anyways I mentioned having a VHS tape with a video of this that was made during Desert Storm while I was aboard. I mentioned having it converted to CD, and he said to check Youtube first that it was probably on there.....It was, and here it is. The tape I"ve got has more stuff like a SEAL team clearing an oil rig. EOD guys blowing up mines, etc, etc., but the main part with the plane footage and all combined with Bad Company singing Bad Company, is just awesome. I especially like the beginning with the planes on the deck with the steam swirling around them and the song ramping up to the guitar riffs where they get launched......The beautiful sunset at the end is pretty awesome too. It"s so great to be able to watch something I haven"t seen in nearly 20 years, and enjoying the memories it brings back to me. Hope you enjoy it too.

Was Benny Suggs the CO of the America at that time?I was an ADJ2 or jet mech. from 1966 to 1970.we had a lot of responsibility that kids our age now could not even imagine,multi-million dollar planes that we were responsible for. Thanks for your service!

I worked in #4 Main Machinery Room (the engine rooms, 'the pit', 'the hole') from early around late '89 to late '91, and went from MM2 to MM1 about half way through.

When we left for the Gulf we had JJ Mazac (sp?) as our Captain. He was a really good guy that cared about everyone onboard. The WHOLE crew loved this guy and the ship had a big banner on the side when we pulled out saying, "We'd sail to hell and back with JJ Mazac". Unfortunately he left us several months later and his replacement was an airdale who couldn't have cared less about anyone not in the air department.

All in all though it was a great ship and a great crew of guys manning her. I loved my time onboard and was sick when I saw she was sunk for target practice a few years back.
