Several years ago I bought this little crawler as a running tractor. While we were unloading it from the trailer there was a bang and the engine stopped dead. It has not been run since...been in storage while I worked on other projects. Before I pushed it to the back I opened the inspection cover and tried to turn the flywheel with a pry bar on the ring gear. It was stuck pretty good. Pulled the valve cover hoping to get a clue...nuttin. So finally today I pulled it forward and crawled under there. Pulled a couple hundred pounds of armor and then took all the bolts out of the oil pan to see if the underside of the engine gives me a clue.

First problem is that I cannot get the oil pan to come all the way off. I have all the bolts off...even the four in the back. It is hanging there half off and will not move forward and come free. Is there a trick to this or did I miss something in the back?

Found my real problem in the course of things also. The piston furthest to the front is broken. Looks like the connecting rod is bent over and wedged into the block on the right side. Pieces of piston are in the bottom of the pan along with part of a piston ring. Can't tell much else until I get the pan all the way off. Any suggestions?

The only thing I can think of that it could be hung up on is the oil pickup strainer,if my memory is correct the pan has a sort of baffle midway,it would have to be moved towards the back for it to clear the strainer, but its forty years since I'v been in there.

Thanks AJ, I will take another look. I didn't know there was a baffle, either the oil pickup or possibly something what broke is hung up in there.
