IH 260A backhoe

Hello On reading numerous discussions on the injection pump on the 260A backhoe , I still have a concern on the removal of the pump. I know that my solenoid is bad. I don't want to mess up any pump timing when removing my pump so should I mark the block and the pump before removing? Also where is the best place to buy a solenoid or the most likely place that will have one. Thank you BOB

One place you may want to try on parts is U. S. Diesel Ft. Worth, Texas www.usdiesel dot com 8oo 3two8 0037.

Tell us the make of pump you got,it should have a name plate,in most cases the pump stays on.

Hi AJ Looked at the backhoe this weekend and the injection pump had NO name on it other than a lot of numbers. The solenoid is located on the backside ( block side ) of the pump. It does look like it might not be able to remove the solenoid because of clearance reasons. The numbers on the pump are; 011 , 73008686 , VA4/10H1200CR187P , 0 46 0 304 233 The serial # on the machine is 1-260PH , 2710105B201053 -x- . I don"t know if this helps, but it"s worth a try. THANKS BOB

That is a Bosch number, this solenoid you need to change what does it do,the usual stop solenoid was mounted on the top of the hydraulic head and could be changed easily,if you have to remove the pump you have to remove all the plumbing and controls, the access plate from the front on the timing cover, the pump is on a keyed taper to the gear hub, loosen the shaft nut and break the taper, remove the pump mounting bolts and the pump lifts off,the gear stays in place and in time,do not turn the engine till the pump is back in place.
Good luck

I have the same backhoe with the same problem. Fuel shut off solenoid. Pump has to come off. Got the new solinoid at Diesel Fuel systems in Bay City Mi. They had ONE in stock. Also told me they are NLA. Good Luck. Should be one on a shelf somewhere.

Hello I finally was able to tear it all down this weekend except for the removal of the injection pump. When I took off the rectangular cover on the front cover I was unsure of what to do. I see the injector gear that is attached to the pump shaft with a large nut , but the large washer with the 3 bolts kind of baffles me. I believe that if I mark the 2 mating gears and pull off the large hex nut I should be able to remove the 2 nuts holding the injector pump on. Are the 3 bolts by the large nut spaced 120 degrees apart there to center the injector pump shaft once it is in place? I don"t know. If I buy a repair book on E-Bay will this explain the correct procedure? BOB

The pump shaft is on a taper and key to the hub, mark the hub in relation to the gear, undo the nut on the shaft, you will need a puller to break the taper, remove the three bolts holding the hub to the gear, use those to attach a piece plate with three holes in it to use as a puller, you must not let the gear come out of mesh.when the taper is broken lift the pump off watching out for the key,do not turn the engine till the pump is back on,have the battery disconnected for safety,a smidgen of super glue keeps the key in place for installing the pump.
Good luck
